Follow God's Recipe: Living Life According to His Will and Way for True Abundance

Ever notice how the same ingredients can make completely different dishes? Potato salad, macaroni salad, chicken salad—they all share similar components, but the outcome depends entirely on whose recipe you follow. The same principle applies to life itself. The question isn't just what ingredients we're working with, but whose recipe we're following.

The Divine Design for Abundant Life

In Psalm 12:6, we're reminded that "the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times." God's Word isn't just good advice—it's the perfect recipe for living. Jesus made this crystal clear in John 10:10 when He said, "I came that you may have and enjoy life and have it in abundance."

But here's the challenge: we live in a world constantly offering alternative recipes. From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, the serpent's strategy has been to get us to question God's instructions. "Did God really say...?" Those four words have caused more damage than perhaps any others in human history.

Seven Ways We Drift from God's Way

The enemy's tactics haven't changed much since Eden. He still works to:

  1. Distance us from God by making Him seem harsh rather than loving

  2. Distort what God actually said, twisting His words to seem unreasonable

  3. Tempt us to debate and dilute God's clear instructions

  4. Deny the truth of God's warnings about consequences

  5. Downplay the cost of disobedience

  6. Make us distrust God's motives, suggesting He's withholding something good

  7. Lead us into sin and bring others down with us

Sound familiar? These same strategies play out daily in our finances, relationships, careers, and personal choices. We convince ourselves that we can follow God's will our way—adding our own ingredients to His perfect recipe.

The Freedom of Following God's Recipe

Here's what many miss: God's instructions aren't restrictions—they're provisions and protections. When God told Adam and Eve they could eat from any tree in the garden except one, He was emphasizing abundance, not scarcity. They had overwhelming freedom and provision. Yet they focused on the one limitation rather than the countless blessings.

We do the same thing. We fixate on what we think God is keeping from us instead of celebrating the abundant life He's offering. The truth? Living according to God's will and God's way—what the Bible calls His "divine design"—is the only path to the flourishing life we're all seeking.

Your Next Steps

So how do we stay on track? Start by asking yourself two critical questions about every decision: Whose will am I following? and Whose way am I using?

Read God's Word carefully, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance. Don't let the enemy distort, debate, or dilute what Scripture clearly says. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can support you when life gets challenging—because it will.

Remember, even Jesus needed His disciples to pray with Him in His darkest hour. We all need people who will listen, encourage, and point us back to God's recipe when we're tempted to improvise.

A Call to Surrender

If you've been following your own recipe and finding life unfulfilling, today is your opportunity to surrender. Confessing Jesus as Lord means more than words—it's positioning your heart to say, "God, I'll live Your will, Your way."

Prayer: Father, thank You for providing the perfect recipe for abundant life. Forgive us for the times we've tried to do things our own way. Help us trust that Your instructions are for our provision and protection, not restriction.

Give us wisdom to recognize the enemy's tactics and courage to follow Your will, Your way, every single day. In Jesus's name, Amen.
