Becoming Disciple Makers in Everyday Life
Ever Wonder How to Truly Live Like Jesus?
In a world bustling with distractions, have you ever paused to consider what it means to truly live like Jesus? This question isn't just a spiritual exercise; it's a call to action that resonates deeply with our mission as Christians. At Bible Center Church, we recently celebrated our pastoral anniversary with a sermon series on "The Enduring Servant," focusing on how we can lead lives that create disciple makers. This isn't just about attending church—it's about embodying Christ's teachings in every facet of our lives.
The Great Commission: Our Shared Mission
The heart of our journey as Christians is beautifully encapsulated in Matthew 28:18-20, often referred to as the Great Commission. Jesus, speaking to His disciples, entrusted them with a mission: "Go and make disciples of all nations." This wasn't a suggestion; it was a command. But how do we, as modern-day followers, fulfill this divine directive?
Our pastors, John and Cynthia, have shown us that the key lies in discipleship—a term we at Bible Center prefer over "Christian education." Discipleship is about more than learning; it's about transformation. It's the daily process of developing our Christ-likeness and demonstrating it in every area of our lives. This mission isn't just for pastors or church leaders; it's for all of us, a collective journey of faith and action.
Living the Mission: Practical Steps to Discipleship
Embrace Learning and Teaching: As disciples, we are both students and teachers. The curriculum is already set by Jesus—our task is to teach others what He taught us. This involves not just imparting knowledge but living it out as examples for others to follow.
Model Christ-like Behavior: The Apostle Paul encouraged the Corinthians to "imitate me, just as I imitate Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). Our lives should be a reflection of Jesus' teachings, serving as a living testimony to those around us.
Engage in Fellowship: Discipleship thrives in community. By doing life together, we learn from each other and grow in our faith. This fellowship is crucial for developing the endurance needed to withstand life's challenges.
Why This Matters: The Urgency of Our Mission
The call to make disciples is urgent. As we anticipate Christ's return, we are reminded that our mission is to prepare ourselves and others for His coming. Ephesians 4:13-15 speaks of growing into maturity, measuring up to the full standard of Christ. This maturity is not just for our benefit but is essential for expanding God's kingdom on earth.
Reflect and Act: Your Role in the Great Commission
When was the last time you paused to listen for God's direction in your life? Consider how you can actively participate in this mission. Whether it's through teaching, modeling, or fellowship, each of us has a role to play in creating disciple makers.
A Call to Action
Join us at Bible Center Church as we continue this journey of discipleship. Whether you're a regular attendee or exploring faith for the first time, there's a place for you in this mission. Let's commit to living out the Great Commission together.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the call to be disciple makers. Help us to embrace this mission with passion and dedication. Guide us as we teach, model, and engage in fellowship, reflecting Your love in all we do. May we grow in maturity and unity, hastening the day of Your return. In Jesus' name, Amen.
This blog post serves as a reminder that discipleship is not just a church program but a lifestyle. As we align our lives with Christ's teachings, we become part of a greater mission, impacting the world for His glory.
